Exhibition at Blackfish Gallery
Caves, caverns, and catacombs: all areas of retreat, of dangerous promise—places where oracles mumble and visions arrive, where secrecy is inevitable and the sacred so near. Carved by chance and time and other thieves, caves offer a dark place we must illuminate with courage and smoldering torches.
This is true for all caverns—those of stone and those within our own subterranean selves. The mind’s cave is ablur with shifting colors and forms, calls and responses, wanderings and dissolutions.
The works in Caverna Clara bring this kaleidoscopic shadow play to light. These artworks use the same stuff of earthen caves—mineral pigments and clay—to realize the colored walls of our own spiritual openings. Perched above the threshold of awareness, the primal ground of our experience can be encountered directly. Here, in this bright cave, is the source of all you call real.
